More than 30 countries from all over the world participated in the Philippine Travel Exchange (PHITEX) 2021 via hybrid format from September 20-23 at the ACEA Subic Beach Resort in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.
Amidst heightened concern for safety and health among domestic tourists, the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) produced and distributed 15,000 sets of materials to promote safe travel domestically. A total of 8,800 DOT-accredited accommodation establishments and tourism enterprises were provided the health and safety protocol stickers and posters to prepare them for re-accreditation in line with the DOT-led “Safe Trip, Pinas” domestic tourism campaign.
Since the start of the pandemic, Procter & Gamble Philippines’ (P&G) Force For Good program has focused on protecting the frontliners in hospitals, local government units, and government agencies who protect the country and help in recovery efforts. P&G was the first company to repurpose their manufacturing plant to have a medical grade face mask production line at the start of the pandemic and has since donated over 3 million face masks to help protect medical, healthcare and government frontliners. The company also previously provided PPE suits and health and hygiene products like Safeguard soap, Head & Shoulders, Tide and Ariel.
While it has greatly affected the local tourism industry, the ongoing pandemic should not be an excuse for not pursuing sustainability, Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat said on Tuesday (August 16) during the virtual recognition of Women Champions of Sustainability hosted by The Conrad Manila.
